Pima Cotton - The Silk of Peru

The nature of the material

Organic Pima cotton grows under the special climatic conditions of Peru. It accounts for less than one percent of the world's cotton harvest, making it one of the rarest natural fibers. This material forms one of the foundations for APUKAI clothing. The focus is entirely on the natural properties and durability of the fabric.

The Special Feature of the Fiber

The quality of the fabric is based on the length of the individual fibers, which measure between 38 and 42 millimeters. During spinning, this creates a very uniform, fine yarn. On the skin, the fabric feels soft and has a subtle, natural sheen.

Garments made from Pima cotton retain their shape in the long term and exhibit high durability. Since cultivation is purely organic, the finished textile is free of chemical residues, particularly skin-friendly, and well-suited for sensitive skin.

A Regional Cycle

The cultivation utilizes the natural conditions in the northern valleys of Peru. Irrigation is mainly done through seasonal rain, which reduces the water requirement by half compared to conventional cotton.

The fibers are spun into yarn directly in regional factories in Lima to keep transport routes short. All cutting waste from production is collected and processed into carpets. After use, the pure natural product completely biodegrades within about three months.

Gentle harvesting

To guarantee the integrity of its exceptional fibers, Peruvian Pima cotton is still hand-picked to this day. The conscious decision to forgo industrial harvesting machines prevents contamination and protects the natural structure of the raw material. This respect for the plant is the decisive, traditional step required to achieve the exact degree of uncompromising purity expected of the final product.
