Our Philosophy

In Quechua, the indigenous language of Peru, Apu refers to the sublime mountain spirits. They are the majestic peaks that have been watching protectively over the barren high plateaus for millennia. The word Kai (also spelled Kay) signifies being and existence in Andean philosophy and represents the tangible here and now in the physical world. APUKAI is the textile fulfillment of these two levels. It combines the timeless grandeur of the mountains with the tangible material perfection of the present. It is a direct homage to the nature of Peru. This ranges from the alpine heights where vicuña and alpaca make their home, down to the warm valleys that form the foundation for our rare cotton fibers.

Our Raw Materials

Every garment begins with the raw fiber. We exclusively use pure and rare natural materials that are 100% sourced from Peru. This focus on the essentials guarantees exceptional quality and a long lifespan for the garments. At the same time, we strictly adhere to a minimal ecological footprint. Deep respect for natural resources and active protection of local ecosystems in the Andes and coastal regions are the absolute prerequisites for the creation of our collections.

The Craft

Our collections are manufactured exactly where our raw materials originate. We work directly with specialized manufacturers and talented Peruvian designers who are deeply rooted in their country's traditional textile art. Through this close partnership, we ensure socially fair production based on respect and just working conditions. Centuries of knowledge about the gentle processing of alpaca or Pima cotton flow directly into every step of the work, combining historical craftsmanship with modern textile demands.

The Aesthetics

All designs by Casa APUKAI are created in Peru and are a direct reflection of high-quality materials. Clear designs and an uncompromising fit are at the heart of our collections. We let the pure quality of the raw fibers and the masterful craftsmanship speak for themselves. Every detail is designed to offer the skin an unparalleled wearing experience. It is an aesthetic of simple elegance, based entirely on artisanal precision and the true substance of Peruvian natural fibers.
